Braking events
What counts as a hard brake, and why thresholds differ.

A hard brake is usually a change in speed over a set amount within a short window. The threshold is a choice each program makes.
Rapid acceleration works the same way in reverse. Neither measure knows why you did it.
Because thresholds vary, the same drive can register zero events in one program and several in another.
Terms
- Threshold
- The speed change that turns normal driving into a recorded event.
- Road context
- Whether a program factors in traffic, road type, or weather.
- Event rate
- Events expressed per trip or per hundred miles rather than as a raw count.
